Hoʻokumu: A Celebration of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi

Celebrate Spring Break with ocean breezes, live DJ beats, and casual island bites at our Spring Break Sunset Sessions on Paeahu Terrace. Enjoy sunset views alongside grilled favorites, sweet treats, shave ice, and refreshing beverages from ʻOpihi in a lively, family-friendly atmosphere.

Keiki ages 6 and older are invited to participate in a family-friendly baton-twirling experience inspired by the art of fire knife dancing. Guided by our team, children will learn introductory movements using safe practice batons—no fire involved. Participants may also choose warrior-style face paint, enjoy a photo opportunity with the fire knife performers, and receive a QR code card linking to a simple tutorial so they can continue practicing their new skills. This interactive activity offers a fun and engaging way for young guests to connect with the cultural tradition while celebrating the spirit of the performance in a safe, playful setting.

In celebration of Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language Month), immerse yourself in a special bingo game, HakalamaGO, offering an approachable first step in understanding how Hawaiian words are spoken and written, all through lighthearted play, friendly competition, and connection. Join us Tuesdays in February at Pilina during Happy Hour from 4:30–5:30 PM for an easygoing way to learn, laugh, and unwind—whether you are playing for prizes or simply for fun. No reservations required.

Immerse yourself in the joy and intellectual play of nā mea pā‘ani, traditional games once enjoyed in historic Hawaiʻi. Led by our Kumu aʻo, this activity invites participants to engage in light-hearted, yet strategic, games that test wit, observation, and creativity—fostering connection and friendly rivalry. As part of the experience, you’ll also craft your own traditional game implement to take home, a handcrafted keepsake representing your personal connection to this cherished cultural practice.

Dive into a night of fun at our movie nights at the Upper Pool! Relax and enjoy the night's featured movie from the comfort of a floatie or poolside lounge, while indulging in complimentary popcorn & sweets. For those ages 21+, the AMA Bar & Grill swim-up bar will remain open for libations.

After our torch lighting ceremony, be mesmerized by a thrilling fire knife performance, held at Paeahu Terrace adjacent to the lower pool deck. This captivating display of skill and tradition will showcase the art of fire dancing, where expertly twirled fire knives light up the night sky, adding a spark of excitement to your evening. It's the perfect way to immerse yourself in the island’s vibrant culture and create lasting memories during your stay.

Join us for an engaging shoreline experience for guests of all ages, discovering the living classroom just steps from the resort. Guided by our cultural team, this interactive beach exploration highlights the natural and cultural elements that make Hawaiʻi’s coast so special. Along the way, you will learn about native plants such as the naupaka and its traditional uses, observe the ʻōpihi that cling to the rocks, and safely interact with marine life including sea urchins like the wana (pencil urchin) and uni. The experience continues with an introduction to the waʻa (Hawaiian canoe), where we share its parts, history, and importance in daily life across the islands. Blending hands-on discovery with storytelling, this experience offers a deeper appreciation for the connection between ocean, land, and culture.

As the sun rises each morning, the Hawaiian people call on the rising of the sun to awaken from the deep ocean, climbing to the highest heavens. Providing enlightenment and prosperity for all of Hawaiʻi and her people. Held at Keoneopolo (Polo) Beach Monday through Friday at 6:55am.

Akin to our ʻukulele lessons, the songs that our hula lessons are set to speak to sense of place and community while sharing tales of Hawaiʻi and its people.

In keeping with time-honored tradition, skilled torch lighters gracefully illuminate each torch across the resort grounds, casting a warm glow in anticipation of the evening. The ceremony concludes with a resonant oli (chant), a poetic tribute that celebrates the moment and invites the spirit of the night to unfold.

Join our acclaimed Artist in Residence, Dale Zarrella, for a guided walking tour of the resort grounds. As you explore, Dale shares the Maui myths and legends that inspire his stunning bronze and rare wood sculptures. End the experience with a taste of Dale’s handmade honu-shaped chocolates.
